THE ANDERSON COUNTY NEWS - Thursday December 16, 1915:

BENJ. PRICE FOUND DEAD
Benjamin Price, aged fifty-eight years, was found dead in the woodshed close to his house in the Stringtown vicinity, Sunday, about 12 o'clock, by his wife. We are told that he was in his usual good health and that he had gone to the shed to get some wood about 11:30 o'clock, and as he failed to return as soon as his wife thought he should, she went to the shed and found him dead. It was indeed a great shock to her and she hurriedly to the house and notified the neighbors and they carried Mr. Price to the house and rendered the grief-stricken wife all possible assistance.

Mr. Price was the son of the late Samuel Price and Alcy Williams Price and was a carpenter by profession, tho he farmed to some extent. Some twenty-odd years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Duncan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Duncan. No children were born to there happy union. He was a quite, industrious and good citizen and was liked by all who knew him.

The funeral was held at his late home Tuesday and the remains were buried in Sand Spring cemetery, after services by Rev. W.D. Moore. Much sympathy is felt for the heartbroken wife in her hour of sorrow. May an All-Wise Providence comfort her in her affliction.

OBITUARY - Anderson County News
James Henry McClain
"The subject of this sketch was born in Shelby County, Ky., Nov. 13, 1862. In early youth, his parents moved to Indiana, but when he grew to manhood he came to Anderson County. He married Miss Jennie Duncan, by whom he had seven children, four of whom survive him. In 1904. In 1904 his wife died, leaving him to care for his little ones, which he did with motherly care and fatherly love. On April 16, 1906, he married Miss Jennie Vander Schaaff, of Jamestown, N.Y., who has been a tender wife and a loving mother to his motherless children. Brother McClain was a hard-working man, honest, true and good. He was a noble Christian, having joined the Lawrenceburg Presbyterian church October 4, 1908, with his wife. He was a Master Mason, having been elected Chaplin of Anderson Lodge No. 90. He died June 28, 1910 at 4 a.m., of blood poison, caused by a wound received while in the discharge of his duty. All who knew him loved and respected, because he was an honorable, Christian man. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wm C. Lindsay, D.D. The body was laid to rest by his first wife in Salt River cemetery, with Masonic ceremonies. Thus ends the story of a beautiful life lived in humble simplicity and unswerving faith in God and his brother man. Take him all in all, "He was a man." His wife and children have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends. Wm. C. Lindsay

48 vi.   Robert E. Lee Duncan, Sr., born Jun 12, 1866 in Anderson County, Kentucky; died Oct 13, 1947 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. He married Ula Lena Catlet Feb 19, 1902 in Anderson County, Kentucky; born Nov 26, 1881 in Kentucky, Anderson County; died Mar 15, 1973 in Garfield County, Oklahoma.
Notes for Robert E. Lee Duncan, Sr.:
Robert E Lee Duncan left his Kentucky home when he was only fifteen and headed "out west" for adventure making his home in the Oklahoma Indian Territory. In 1893, when he was twenty-seven, he was living in Kingfisher, Oklahoma Territory. In preparation for the last great race for land known as the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893 Robert E L traveled back to Kentucky to purchase the fastest horse he could find. He brought back two of Kentucky's fine horses and searched for choice land with a plentiful supply of water.

It was Sept. 16, 1893, on a hot and dusty day, the opening of the 226-mile tract known as the Cherokee Strip for settlement was about to begin. This is a story of drama, perseverance, hope and above all, dreams. People came to the land that would be Oklahoma by train, horseback, wagon and on foot, from every state and territory in the nation and abroad. They had gathered along the boundaries for many days and were ready for the gunshot at noon to start them on their quest for claims.

President Cleveland and Secretary of Interior H. R. Smith hoped that, with planning, they could avoid stampedes for land. Prior to opening the land, county seats were established and four land
offices were opened. Homesteaders were to go to these offices and pay a filing fee. The Strip was to be settled by the horse-race method. Homesteaders were to register and produce filing fee affidavits to be eligible for the run.

Finally, at noon September 16, 1893, a shot rang out and more than 100,000 determined settlers raced for 42,000 claims. By sunset, there were tent cities, endless lines at federal land offices and more losers than winners. Robert E Lee Duncan was the 5Th to file.

In 1902 when he was 36 Robert E L Duncan returned to Anderson County, Kentucky and married Ula Lena Cattlett. She was a beautiful twenty year old bride who's parents are said to have disowned her for marrying and moving away from Kentucky to the wild west with a man who was listed as a saloonist on their marriage record. They married February 19, 1902 in Kentucky and this southern girl, who had her own personal servant until she was fourteen, soon found herself living the life of a settler in the wild Oklahoma Territory. Robert & Ula had seven sons all born in Garfield County, Oklahoma. Robert E Lee Duncan has many descendants still living in Garfield County.
