SARAH M. WESTCOTT, b. April 21, 1828; d. November 7, 1911; m. ORANGE H.
BEARDSLEY, 1847; b. April 11, 1825; d. May 24, 1864.

Notes for ORANGE H. BEARDSLEY:
Son of Chauncey Beardsley and Nancy Smedley, of Isaac and Lucena
Beardsley. Nancy Smedley,
b-Apr 5, 1802, of Jedidiah Smedley, Jr., b-Jul 22, 1767, of Williamstown,
Mass., Brookfield
and Bridgewater, Conn., of Jedidiah and Ruth (Glover) Smedley, of Samuel
and Esther (Kilborn) Smedley, of Samuel of Fairfield Conn., son of emigrant
who came to Concord, Mass., 1636. Orange and Sarah lived in a log house on
"Stone Hill," between Williamstown and Amboy in Oswego Co, NY, and here
their children were born. He was killed in the rebellion. Following the war,
Sarah took her children, except Anson and one daughter to Michigan, where
they lived with her brothers. Many descendants resided
1938 in Michigan. (Stukely Westcott, Vol. 2, Pg. 251, 1939)

Comment (Tom McKenna): Examination of military records for Orange Beardsley
indicates that he was killed at Battle North Anna River 23 May 1864. He was
in Co. C, 147th New York Infantry. The 147th NY was attacked near the
Jericho Mill on the south side of the river in the evening of the 23rd. He
died in the field hospital on night of 23 May or early morning 24 May 1864
with surgeon attending to him. The pension petitions of Sarah Wescott
Beardsley show she moved to Michigan in 1865 the reason given that "she has
relatives living in the later place better able to help support her", she
continued to pursue her pension application through proxies in NY.
