Roy E. and Gloria Rice West Family History

My name is Gloria Rice West. I was born January 10th,
1942 in Eldorado, Oklahoma, the daughter of William
Clinton and Myrtle Marie Amyx Rice. I married Roy E.
West, born 8-18-1938 in Eldorado,OK., the son of Homer
Tatum and Sarah Elizabeth Boles West.
I have written two books on my families and one on
Roy's. They are: "Amyx And Allied Ancestors Sixteenth
Century To Twentieth Century", "Annals Of Our Ancestors
The Durham and West Families From The Old World To
The New World", and "Records Of Our Rice-Tyson-Hurst-
Neil-Morris-Epperson Relations Eighth Century To The
Twentieth Century".
Families included are: Amyx,Beeman,Brooks,Boles,Bolt-
wood,Bird,Brewer,Bassano,Branch,Carroll,Crow,Curry,Durham,
Epperson,Farrar,Foote,Gardner,Geschwind,Goode,Gregg,Hairston,Henderson,Hurst,Kellogg,Lanier,Morris,Nash, Neil,Pearson,Preston,Rice,
Rogers,Smith,Stone,Seale,Tatum,Terry,Trent,Tyson,
White,West,Wantlands,Wax and Winsteads.
Roy and I first started our genealogy research in 1991
when we went to Maryland to visit our daughter, Laura
and her family. Laura took us to Roanoke and Fin-
castle, VA. Botetourt Co. to start our research on the
Amyx family. That was the first of four trips there.
Our other trips have taken us to KY, TN, TX, AR; plus
numerous phone calls, letters and searching of the
internet genealogical websites. Needless to say,
genealogy is our prime hobby and past-time. We enjoy
traveling and visiting the courthouses, libraries,
cemeteries, and visiting new found relatives and
friends.
We have four children, Debra Hignite, Sarah Doherty,
Chris West, and Laura Miller. They have blessed
us with 9 wonderful grandchildren: Heather, 16;
Rachel, 15; Christopher, 14; Aaron, 13; Katie, 11;
Joshua, 11; Savannah, 10; Brendan, 7 1/2; and Emily,
6. It is to them I want to leave the legacy of their
ancestors in written form and word.
Roy is a member of the SAR and SRT, plus one of my
staunch supporters for the Huguenot Society of
Oklahoma. I am a member of the William Rives chapter
of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century in
Oklahoma City. I am a
member of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the DAR Society.
Currently I have just finished one two-year term and
going into another two-year term as President of the
Oklahoma Huguenot Society of Manakintowne Virginia.
John Lanier, SR. was my immigrant ancestor to Virginia.
He was the grandson of Nicholas Lanier, Gentlemen of
the Kings Court in France and later to Queen Elizabeth
of England. Nicholas was a musician for the royal courts
of France and England. After becoming a protestant in
France after the great reformed movement of John Calvin,
later to be know as leader of the Huguenots; he had
to flee to England. The Lanier family lost their
fortunes, but was later recompensed by Queen
Elizabeth of England.
Nicholas married Lucreece Bassano, daughter of Anthony
Bassano, son of Jeronimo Bassano; who had been Master
of Music to the Dogge of Venice, Italy. Nicholas and
Lucreece's descendants were musicians for the royal
family of England for three generations. Jeronimo's
five sons had immigrated to England where they were
also musicians to the Kings and Queens of England.
The Bassanos were instrument makers of England from
1531 to 1665.
Roy's families start with the Puritan lines coming from
England to New England. Eleazer III went south to IL, took a wife
and ended up in Navarro Co. TX. where they were allied
with southern families.
Next to genealogy, traveling is and has been one of our favorite hobbies. We have included pictures of our trips to England, France, Israel, Egypt, Greece and Italy. I hope you enjoy viewing these pictures.

We are Abraham's Children of Faith. Here we are on our way back from Egypt going to Tel Aviv for our return trip back to the States. We stopped off at Father Abraham's Well, couldn't get a drink, but we already had the "Living Water". Next photo is down under the ruins and excavations of Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem. We are the true Jews, not of the circumcision of flesh, but circumcision of hearts. For he is not a Jew that is born of the flesh, but he that is born of the Spirit.

This is a picture of "Granny" as we all
called her. She was so beautiful and kind
and always wrote to everyone keeping up
on all the family. She lived to be almost
91 years of age.

- Mt. Sinai and The Eastern Gates (163 KB)
This is where God appeared as The Great I Am to Moses on Mt. Sinai. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Elat, Egypt on the Red Sea and our journey though the Sinai Desert to Mt. Sinai. The next picture is of The Golden Gate in the Wall that surrounds Jerusalem. This is where Jesus Christ will appear as King of Kings and Lord of Lords the second time he appears on Earth.

This is our home. Daddy finished
building this home in 1950. It was
the third new home that he had built
for the Rice family.
It is located 3 1/2 miles east of Eldorado,
OK and is still being lived in today.

This is Palace of Versailles behind the gold leaf wrought iron fence. Three famous kings of France lived here Louis XIV, XV and XVI. Behind the Palace Roy and I are standing on the steps that overlook the fountains and spacious grounds and gardens of Versailles. Of course at Christmas there aren't any beautiful flowers blooming. Nevertheless, that didn't alter the beauty of the place. Next is Roy and I as we cruise the River Seine on the Bateaux Mouches river boats under the romantic "bridges of Paris". These are spectacular night cruises. Paris, "The City of Lights" is my favorite city in the world.

He was born in Mayfield, KY and went
to Navarro Co. Tx. as a young man.
Became the Sheriff of Corsicana, TX.
Later homesteaded in what was then,
Greer Co. TX, later to become
Co. OK.
- "The Hall" - Isleham, Suffolk, England (166 KB)
The Hall was the servants quarters at Lord and Lady Peyton's Manor house in Isleham. Now it is a farm where sheep are raised and beets, among other things. It has been turned into an apartment house. This is where Mark and Laura West Miller lived in 1990 when Roy and I went to England at Christmas time to visit them. It was truly a romantic trip that took us back in time.

When Roy and I took the Brit Rail up to Durham, England, we stayed at the "Three Tuns Tavern" or Roadside Inn. Gloria is in the Lobby in front of a roaring fireplace. Roy is coming up to our room bringing the luggage and I caught his picture. He looked so tired! Ha.

Bill and Sarah were raised by Woods
and Lafferty families.

We are so excited, Israel, The Holy Land Trip of a lifetime. Here we are in front of the Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv just after our arrival. Inside we are waiting to go through customs, ugh! Really it wasn't so bad. But look at all that luggage we had to cart around!

These are the great Roman Aqueducts engineered and built by King Herod. They run through the whole country of Palestine and Israel to beneath the ruins of King Solomon's Palace in Jerusalem.

Looks like Roy and I are real camel jocks, right? Well, we were brave, (few were) and took a ride right there in Jericho where Joshua fought the Battle of Jericho. It just takes faith.
- "We Are Standing On Holy Ground" (244 KB)
Roy and I are standing on Temple Mount in Jerusalem in front of a Gazebo right over where the Ark Of The Covenant is supposed to be down-under in the ruins of Solomon's Temple. We took a tour through half of the ruins, but the Ark of the Covenant is on the Moslem side and the Jews cannot excavate that side. The other photo is in Capernaum at the ruins of the White Synagogue. This is where Jesus preached and performed his miracles.
- Holy Land Trip to Israel and Egypt (282 KB)
In 1998 Roy and I took a Holy Land Tour with Cathedral of Praise in OKC. We went to Israel and Egypt. It was the 50th Anniversary of Israel being a Nation, re-established in 1948. What a year to go! This picture was taken on "The Mount of Olives" in the Garden of Gethsemane, where we had a sunrise service and prayed for one hour. "Can you not tarry with me but one hour, Jesus asked His disciples?"
