Crash kills Belvidere woman, 56
Fort Dodge, Iowa -- Mrs. Mae Clay, 56, 815 Garfield Ave., Belvidere, died Sunday night in a Fort Dodge hospital from injuries she received Saturday afternoon in an auto accident near here.
Her husband, Stiver, 59, and her mother, Mrs. Minnie Jordan, Lena, were injured and were listed in satisfactory condition Monday at Bethesda General Hospital, Fort Dodge.
Clay is a composing room employee at The Rockford Register-Republic.
According to Iowa state police, the Clays and Mrs. Jordan were en route to Sioux Falls, S.D., to visit the Clay's son, James.
As they were riding on U.S. 20 near Fort Dodge, their car, driven by Clay, collided with a car driven by Dorothy P. Gerbracht, Somers, Iowa. State police said the Gerbracht auto was entering U. S. 20 from a side road when the accident occurred.
Survivors of Mrs. Clay besides her husband and mother are one son, James, Sioux Falls, S.D., and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the First United Methodist Church, Belvidere with burial in the Lena Burial Park. Friends may call at the Witbeck-Wheeler-Sabien Funeral Home, Belvidere, from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday, and after noon Thursday at the church until time of service.
