Sharon's Family Past and Present

About Our Family Research

Starting about January 2001 I decided to search out my Father's family names, the Kays and Rouses. I was born and raised in the Ogle County area, specifically Mt. Morris, IL. Many of my Rouse's have lived in that area, as well as the Ungers, Stimax's and Foukes. The Kays families started in New Jersey, and ended up in Iowa. I did find that the Kays had been researched previously, but did learn of new cousins and distant relatives. Mel Kays and Von Kays (two second cousings) gave me a lot of information on John Kays, my fifth great grandfather who was born in Scotland, but of English descent. I started then on my grandfather, James W Rouse's family. Grandpa James lived in Mt. Morris,IL in his later years. I found ancestors all the way back to early 1700's, starting with Johann Rausch, of the Germanna Colony in VA, who came from Germany approximately 1717. And with the help of a kind man from Kansas, whose name is Dan L., found Grandpa Rouse's Mother and Father. It all started with a 1900 census record from Kansas! Recently, I have received information on Grandpa's Mother, Rosemary E Armstrong, and her family. I have recently found more ancestors on the Rouse family side, these are the Roney family. Thanks to my "cousin" Helen Gant Donald from GA, who also tuned me into Rosemary's family, and Jack and Ginny from New York. And from there now, I have gone back to John and Mary Rouse, originally from Germany, late 1600's, who settled in Virginia in early 1700's. With help of my cousin Gary Zumdahl, and Darren Fouke and other members of the Unger and Fouke family, I have gotten information on my Mother's side of the family. Still seeking information on the Holmes Family, my Grandpa Stimax's biological parents. They were living in the Winnebago County area of IL. I do have a picture of his biological mother, Mary Packard Holmes. This is information I will be giving to my children, in the form of a Family book, Christmas 2001. UPDATE: Jan 2002....The book for my children and sister was completed ahead of time, and what fun I had! I shall continue on as long as I am able, hoping that one of my children or descendants will take over when I am gone. NEW UPDATE: August 2002, we have moved to the Wheeling WV area, love it here, and it is close in to all family research. Update September 9, 2005: Since living in the WV area, I have found much more family information. My work continues on and on!
