8. FLOYD DEAN6 WILLIAMS (FLOYD FRANKLIN5, CHARLES SIDNEY4, PERRY C.3, WILLIAM2, ROBERT1) was born August 12, 1927 in Harrison, Sioux County, Nebraska. He married SHEILA A. BRODERICK February 27, 1954 in Columbus, Nebraska, daughter of JOHN BRODERICK and SYLVIA JAHDE. She was born November 28, 1934 in Dunlap, Harrison Co, Iowa.

LOYD DEAN WILLIAMS:
Raised on a ranch until I was 8-years-old. Went to grade school near Ardmore, SD. and Node, WY. Both of those were early in my life and both were country. I also attended grade school at Edgemont, So. Dak., Lusk, WY and Chadron, NE. Attended my freshmen year in high school at Chadron High. My final three years came at Edgemont High.

Attended college at Universities of Wyoming and Nebraska; and Chadron State College. Started out in agricultural engineering and finished up taking general courses.

Started my career with the Daily Racing Form in May of 1947 at Ak-Sar-Ben. Also worked as an announcer and official on the Nebraska circuit. Columbus was the first meet that I announced, coming in 1950. Worked 49 1/2 years for the Daily Racing Form, retiring on Labor Day, Sept. 2, 1996.

My biggest honor was being installed in the Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame in 1995.

Served in the Navy in World War II but never seen action.

In Scott's work with the Daily Racing Form he covered all of the Triple Crown races and the Breeders' Cup. He covered the Kentucky Derby on several occasions.

Scott left Equibase in 2002 and went to work for the state of Pennsylvania as an interviewer in the state's educational department.

9. JOAN6 WILLIAMS (FLOYD FRANKLIN5, CHARLES SIDNEY4, PERRY C.3, WILLIAM2, ROBERT1) was born August 29, 1934, and died March 9, 1999 in Wickenberg, AZ. She married (1) TOM SEELEY 1954. He died December 30, 1999 in Casper, WY. She married (2) DON THORSON November 1979 in Wickenburg, AZ.

Obituary

Newcastle--Memorial services for Joan Thorson, 64, St. Albin's Episcopal Church in Wicken burg, AZ, with the Rev. Charles Threetwit officiating.

A second memorial service will be held Monday at Christ church in Newcastle with the Rev. Ben Wright officiating.

She died March 9, 1999 at her winter home in Wickenburg, AZ. Her death was caused by the effects of 50 years of smoking.

She was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Harrison NE to Floyd and Billie Williams

She spent her early childhood in the Lusk and Edgemont, SD areas and on the thoroughbred race tracks of NE where her father was an owner and trainer of race horses.

She was also often a guest of her aunt and uncle, Dutch and Emma Updike in the Osage oil field.

She attended high school in Edgemont.

She married Tom Seeley in 1954 and moved to Newcastle, where they managed and airport and operated fire suppression bombers. They had three children and moved to Casper and then Wickenburg, AZ. They were divorced in 1977.

She married Don Thorson in Wickenburg in November 1979 and moved back to Newcastle in a blizzard. They made their home in Newcastle with winter visits to AZ, until her husband sold the oil business and then they split their time between homes.

She had a real love to race horses and was especially proud of her nephew, Rob, who is a jockey. She was also a devoted fan of Tom Osborne and the Nebraska football team. she loved interior decorating and was a good amateur artist.

She will be remember for her optimistic outlook on life, a strong independent spirit and the way she overcame obstacles in her life.

She had an especially sad time when Kevin, one of her 18-year-old twins, was killed while she was going through a divorce, but regained her spirit.

She then managed to earn a real estate sales license and became a Century 21 agent before she remarried.

She was preceded in death by parents and a son.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Kent Seeley; two grandchildren; her brother, Dean; and four nieces and nephews.
