 Includes NotesNotes for Matilda:
Edgar's older sister. Matilda was given the name of Edith or Editha but it
gradually became Matilda or "Good Queen Maud". She was raised by her aunt,
Abbess of Romsey. Henry and Matilda had two children, a son named William, for his grand-father, and a daughter named Matilda who became empress.
Some records say that Matilda is buried in Westminster Abbey, near her uncle
EDWARD THE CONFESSOR; but the monks at Reading claimed that she was buried in their Abbey; Winchester is named as her burial place too.*
