Known as "Coeur de Lion" or "the Lion-Hearted."
1157-1199
King of England (1189-1199). A leader of the Third Crusade (1190-1192), he was captured in Austria (1192) and held as a prisoner by Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI until England ransomed him in 1194.
