The first settlement in Derry Township was almost the earliest in Westmoreland County.Some of the soldiers who came west with Forbes' army during the French-Indian War settled here as early as 1762. Some were here as early as 1763 when Pontiac's War began. Among the earlier settlers was Major James Wilson who claimed land near what is New Derry today. He bartered with Indians and lived on corn, potatoes, wheat, and rye. During this time, he met a fur trapper/trader named Dunlap, as well as another settler named George Findley. Two years later, James Wilson went back east and returned with a wife. His wife was one of the first women in the township. James Wilson was one of the foremost men in Derry Township.James Wilson was the first school teacher. He had a farm near New Derry of about 800 acres. He lived there until his death in 1820. His remains, along with those of his wife and married daughter, Mrs. Knott, were buried on a farm near their home. James Wilson, son of James Wilson, Sr. migrated to Butler County where he died in 1888. He married Mary Carothers, daughter of John Carothers. On the tax list of 1803 in Butler, James was listed as single and owned 200 acres. ( 1883 History of Butler, Pa. ) James was elected, in December 1843, one of the first trustees of the " Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Sunbury, incorporated in November 1848. (P.15 Chapter 46) Child of James Wilson and Mary Carothers was Allen Wilson, b. 1828, Clay Township, Butler County d. 26, May, 1885 in Warren, Pa. Allen married Mary Jane who died on 16, October 1863 in Butler. He then married Anna Loretta Timblin 13, December 1856 in Sunbury. She was the daughter of James Timblin and Susan Miller. She was born 30, October 1846 in Sunbury, Pa. and died 2, August 1932 in Warren, Penna. Allen Wilson was a Captain during the Civil War in Co. G 137th Regiment Pa. Volunteers from Butler, Pa. He enlisted on 25, August 1862 and was discharged on 1, June 1863.His wife Anna Loretta received a pension from his service in the Civil War. The United Presbyterian Church in Butler was organized by Rev. R.G.Ferguson, assisted by Allen Wilson, acting Elder on 15, July 1878(Allen was 50) P.6 Chapter 31. Allen was Justice of the Peace, Sunbury Borough in 1866 and 1874. He became Burgess in 1866 and was among others chosen to frame ordinances for the use of the borough. ( P.12,Chapter 46. He was Burgess 1867, 1869, 1872, 1873. In 1881 he was listed as Justice of the Peace in Venango Township.(1883 History of Butler). Allen & Lauretta came to live in Warren in about 1883 where they lived on 501 Beech Street. Gilmore b. 1870 d. 8, October 1918 in Warren,Pa. Frank Wilson b. The children of Harry Jerome & Mary Gray Wilson are Allen Fedalis , Alice Kathryn,and Harry Charles. Allen F. b. 24,April 1898 in Warren,Pa. d. 29, December 1973 . He married Marion Prudence Baughman on 16, October 1928 in Warren,Pa.She was born 5, Oct. 1907 and died 5, July, 2002. She was the daughter of George Baughman and Elizabeth Reitz. The children of Allen & Prudence Baughman Wilson are Dennis Allen, Carol Ann and Eugene John. Harry Charles Wilson b. 13, May 1911. He married Monica Jerman 1, June 1946.She was the daughter of George Jerman & Elizabeth Hohman.She died 23, June 1999. The children of Harry Charles & Monica Jerman Wilson are Craig Louis, Linda Kathryn and Cheryl Ann. The Wilson's continue to live in Warren,Pa.in 2003.
