| Phil Williamson's family names include Katzenberger, Caldwell, Koons, Coontz, Kuntz, Nolan, Hursler, Williamson, & Jensen. The various spellings of Koons are found in Switzerland, Alsace, North Carolina, Indiana and Iowa. The Katzenbergers are also from Iowa, having come from Germany in mid-nineteenth century. The Williamsons have been traced from Pennsylvania, probably from Scotland. The Caldwells are from Scotland and Ireland, then Pennsylvania in 1766, then to Indiana, Kentucky, and Iowa.Rowena Leach Williamson descends from the Varga, Cox, Austin and Leach families. The Vargas came from Hungary in the mid- nineteenth century, settling in west Texas, where William Alexander Varga married Sudie Austin. Rowena Watson Cox, the daughter of Mabry Tucker Cox and Sarah Jane Sturm of Sullivan County, Tennessee, married John Wesley Leach of Doddridge County, West Virginia, in Temple Texas. John Leach fought for the south in the Civil War, under Nathan Bedford Forrest. His mother was Caroline Newland, his father Archibald Leach of Preston County VA. Other names are James, Bosley, Bussey, Depew of Tennessee and Maryland. |
