In the early 1960s while living in Goldsboro, N. C. Louise Womble from the Eastern Shore Virginia loaned me a copy of THE FIRST WOMBLE FAMILIES OF THE UNITED STATES by George H. Womble, Jr., Los Angles, California, dated July, 1960. My quest began to find out how my family was related to Thomas Wombwell. In 1964 the family records were researched at the County Courthouse, Courtland, Virginia. Those records revealed the name of my grandfather and his mother, Polly, but not any one else. Twenty-nine years later the search for the missing generations was taken up again. Southampton County, Virginia Courthouse records were poured through again and some for the first time. Census records were checked. A death certificate was located in the Department of Health-Division of Vital Records in Richmond. Visits were made to where my great grandmother lived, died and was buried.
