It appears Charles Walden served in the USCT at the Siege of Petersburg and under the name Charles Smith. 1890 Special Veterans Schedule Census for MO Pettis County Sedalia Has a Charles T Walden alias Charles Smith on line 23 of census page. Rank: Private in Company F29th Regiment USCT. June 1864 to June 1865. At bottom of census for line 23 entry is Post OfficeSedalia, MO And written across both boxes titled "Disability Incurred" and "Remarks" has "wounded in right arm at Petersburg, left leg near Weldon"
Now the website at the Wisconsin Historical Society for the USCT company F29th Regimenthas a roster with no Charles Smith but does have a Charles South with residence being Milwaukee, Wisconsin enlisted June 28 1864. It is also noted than most of Company F soldiers were from Illinois and Missouri taking the place of Wisconsin men and being credited as being from Wisconsin.
There is also a Collin South listed has anyone determined if he is related to Charles?
