Re: Finding Great-Grandmother's parents
Jana - Since you know your Great- grandmother's adoptive name, you may be able to trace the adoption by visiting the county courthouse in the county in which she was adopted. If you look through the old records you will first come across the adoptive parents' names, next to those names will be the birth name of the child that they adopted. You will have to do the searching yourself, they won't do it for you. This is especially easy if you know your great-grandmother's exact date of birth and if she was adopted as a baby.Easy but time consuming - prepare to spend as much as time as it takes. If you don't know exactly when she was adopted, start with her birth date and work forward. Most of the old records are handwritten. This is how you find out the birth name - getting the adoption records is a little more difficult, sometimes they are unsealed because the records are very old and sometime you will have to petition the court to get them opened.Good luck!!!!
