Jo Ann, I have found my Martin Hewlett as a son of Thomas Hewlett who died in Carolina Co. VA in 1759 leaving behind a wife Margaret (Dillon) Hewlett and orphans named: William Hewlett b 17XX-1821, Thomas Hewlett (Jr) 17XX-1787, Martin Hewlett b 1754-1816, Augustine b 17XX - 1798, Martha Hewlett Lacy b 1759-1831, Susannah b 17XX-1825.Their Mother Margaret Dillon Hewlett remarried the Court appointed Guardian named John Watts about 1762.
Caroline County Va Court Minutes Vol 1757-1763 has dispostion of Hewlett estate, appointment of Guardian John Watts for "Hewlett Orphans" and marriage to widow M Hewlett. There was a listing that William Hewlett was an apprentice in 1762 (at about 12 years of age) to a Benjamin Tompkins of Caroline Co. VA. Only my Martin Hewlett's brothers died in Henry Co. VA and were all born in Caroline County VA where their Father Thomas Hewlett Sr died in 1759. Thomas Hewlett Junior and his younger brother Martin married 2 Moseley sisters who were daughters of Samuel Moseley & Martha Hodges of St. James Parish Northam Church, Goochland Co VA. (See "Douglass Register 1757-1797", p 6, 75 for marriage of Sam to Martha and birth/christenings of 2 daughters b 1762 & 1765).
