To:H.R. Worthington QUESTION: Ancestry.com & FTM:Does an old 'free' Ancestry.com account interfere with a newer Ancestry.com paid 'subscription'?
I'm new to the ''Family Tree Maker Search Tools Forum''.It is indeed wonderful resource! Before asking this question, I would to say that I greatly appreciate the expertise/counsel that you share with others:
For example, this thread *may* provide the answer to a problem that I seem to be experiencingwith my FTMand Ancestry.com accounts. Attached below is a brief description a problem that I encountered yesterday:
I very recently registered my (old but very functional) 2005 edition of FTM, so I could utilize my fairly new Ancestry.com subscription for census searches, etc. However, when I attempted to search Ancestry.com census data via FTM, ''lock'' icons show that I am not able to the census data.
CLARIFICATION:Prior to my January 2008 purchase of an Ancestry.com subscription, I (like many others), simply utilized a ''free'' Ancestry.com account for limited research. One year ago, I purchased a ''paid'' subscription to Ancestry.com, have used this upgraded account since that time.Needless to say, it provides FAR MORE data than my previous ''free'' account. Now that I have experienced using the ''paid'' Ancestry.com subscription, I cannot imagine switching back to the limited ''free'' account for my research.
POINT:I have *more than one* Ancestry.com account: My old 'free' account (which I appreciated & used for many years); and, my newer ''paid'' Ancestry.com account (which I love!), and now use almost daily.
TWO ACCOUNTS:Perhaps this is why my 1-year old (paid) Ancestry.com account is does not seem to be 'recognized' when I recently tried to use FTM to access census data?i.e.,IMPORTANT: The same census data is accessible when I search via my Ancestry.com subscription--but, when using FTM to search the same census years, ''locks'' appear on those census years.
Are 'multiple Ancestry.com accounts' (free + paid), the reason why I am not able to access Ancestry.com records via FTM?But, can access the same census data, etc., via my Ancestry.com paid subscription?
Again, I appreciate your input and expertise.Thank-you for your help.
