Re: The Cemetery at Hawbotom, MD
The Johnson Family Cemetery located off Hawbottom (Hawbotom) Road in Frederick County, Maryland contains the descendants of a son Thomas Johnston of Henry & Margaret, surname not specified, but referred to in many queries as Johnstone.Thomas Johnston, 1712-1778, married Mary Rogers, and had a number of children (Henry, John, Thomas, Joseph, Robert, Mary, and Martha).Depending on the year referred to some of these descendants were known as Johnson. One descendant, Robert, was referred to by Johnstone, Johnston, and Johnson.
My great great grandfather was known as Johnston, but famiy history does not refer to his given name.Maria Katharina Johnson,1884-1954, stated that her grandfather, Benedict Johnson, had a father whose surname was spelled with the letter "t" in the surname.Parenthetically, her father was known as Benedict Aloysius Johnson (married to Louisa Dummel); her grandfather Benedict was married to Catharine Mullen of Charles; she, when a widow, married Widower Jacob Timanus.
Benedict Aloysius & Louisa had Maria Katharina, Thomas Benedict, Anna Elizabetha, John Francis, Agnes Cecily, Charles Henry, Adeline Theresia, and fraternal twins, Louise Magdelene & Laura Virginia.Benedict & Catharine (Mullen) had John McElroy Johnson, Mary Agnes Johnson, Laura Virginia Johnson, and Benedict Aloysius Johnson.
Catharine Mullen's sister, Margaret Mullen, married to Thomas Hamilton Hessong, the son of Captain Thomas Johnson of Robert, are the parents of infant Mary Hessong buried in the Hawbottom Johnson Family Cemetery.
