Re: 3 Sons of Elijah Ward
I found the Final Statment for Sgt. Martin V. Ward, at footnote.com.
On this form it states that Martin Ward served with Company K, 26th Regiment Mississippi Vol's. (Volunteers?)
He enlisted as a private at the age of 17 on August 16, 1861, at Marietta, Mississippi, by Major Gaines. I can e-mail the forms to you if you wish.
There are about 19 pages of his service records.
He seems to have been in Co. Y, then transferred to Co. K.
It also shows he was a prisoner of War, captured at Fort Donelson on Feb. 16, 1862 and is on a Roll of Prisoners at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Ind, August 24, 1862.
