Yes, you are right. Thomas D. Dunnell fought in the Civil War in New York, but lived in Carlyle, Ill. His wife was Mary Ann Harchaux from France. Somehow or other he ended up as caretaker of my ggrandfather, Edward B. Harris and his sister, Elizabeth Bell Harris. Their names appear in the 1870 census with him and his family. Edward and Elizabeth were from Plum Bayou, Ar.

Dunnell shows up on the 1860 census as living in Carlyle, so he is not from Arkansas. I'm trying to figure out how he got those kids; is he blood related to them and why Edward said he was from Harrison, Ar. when it wasn't named until 1870 and by that time he was in Illinois. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dunnell's great grandson is Jimmy Johnson, the NASCAR driver.......
