After 17 years I bid a fond farewell to Genforum Chat and the message boards.
While the Ancestry folks have not made an official announcement, the writing is on the wall that Genforum is going to be left to die.
It is a shame because the forums here are head and shoulders above the ones at Rootsweb that Ancestry does maintain.
The chat is a place where I learned a lot from some great genealogists, both about genealogy and life. We are family. Sometimes literally, sometimes emotionally. We saw fellow chatters have babies and grandbabies, endure crises and joy, and find that one record that kept them moving backwards in their research. We have some chat angels in Heaven now and even a few chat marriages. Many of us have met in person and are lifelong friends now.
I have to thank Cliff Shaw, who started it all, and Paul Burchfield, who kept it going and saw that improvements were made.
As we move on to our new chat at https://sites.google.com/site/genchatters/ I leave lots of great memories here at Genforum.
