When you become a Jew, then you join our family.
One can do DNA genemapping on any population.
In the end it connects people to a family with a higher or lower probability.

We (You and I) come from a common family that traces back to Adam, therefore we both contain certain common genetic elements.From that original family of Adam and Eve (our grandparents) so there were subfamilies ad infinitum.
