old remedies
Does anyone remember a healing ointment (or salve) called Zambuk? My mother was born in England and when we were kids growing up in the rough farmland area of Northern Ontario (Canada) this Zambuk was the only thing we had in the house for cuts, bruises, scrapes, headcolds, etc. It was a commercial product available in drug stores but we were miles and miles from any drug store. When she was still a girl in England, her mother got the recipe for Zambuk from somewhere and they made their own - bought the ingredients before they left England ( illegal, I know, but it was a godsend in the Northern Ontario bush country.) My mother passed the recipe on to my sister and my sister has passed it onto her daughter. Now - there is one ingredient my sister has run out of - it's called "Green Swallow Oil." Does this ring a bell with anyone?
