Noat so fast, you guys.If you have any of the 'modern' 5 or 7 layered 18-10 stainless steel cookware like I have, (Star-Craft of Tampa, Fla.) you can 'cook' many foods with out any heat but that used to raise the water to the boiling point. They call it 'waterless cookware and it does that nicely, but I cook rice, cream of wheat and oatmeal AND GRITS without additional heat. These foods will cook in about 3 to 5 minutes with the lid on and the vent closed. And you don't have to watch the pot. No burning. For rice; boil the water, add salt and rice and put on the cover, remove from the burner and leave it. You'd be surprised at how it does this. Any food that cooks in under 20 minutes can be done this way. Saves on gas and electricity too but I don't like to watch the pot. Try it. Some time Ago there was a 'French' pot sold, for about $300.00 that did the sqme thing but it was too rich for my blood. But it would cook a stew also because it held the heat so long.
