Dear Linda McManus:
I agree with you that, obviously, Zerelda had come to be "regarded" as a Cole, from a very early age. That doesn't mean she was a Cole IN REALITY. Just because she was referred to as a Cole in certain documents, doesn't prove she really was a Cole. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. As long as there is conflicting evidence to the contrary, this question can never be finally decided merely by referring to these documents. These documents provide evidence that Zerelda was a Cole, but in the face of conflicting evidence they cannot be regarded as proof that she was a Cole. On the basis of these documents you may "believe" that Zerelda was a Cole. You are free to "believe" whatever you like. Just don't confuse BELIEF with PROOF. All you are entitled to say is: On the basis of these documents, I "believe" that Zerelda was a Cole, but I cannot be SURE of that because of the conflicting evidence to the contrary, which conflicting evidence so far has not been proven to be false.
Sincerely, and Lots of Love - -
P. K. K.
