I suppose the various books, articles, documentaries, etc., need to be compared.....just as we have to do with genealogical data, wherein we seek multiple sources.

Both the first article you posted and the documentary on History about Arkansas Tom only used one surname each, and both were different.Your last article used both surnames.

Is it any wonder we have trouble tracking down those old bones in the 1700-1800s?Many were probably known by various names...whether by choice or just nicknames that others used in referring to them.

btw.....In that second article, the picture of Doolin is the same one they used on the History Channel.
