Re: Great Question...Where DID he come from???
Isn't it a great question!?! I've no idea where he came from, but it seems as though one person on the planet should know! (wish it were me!) Especially considering the fact that he married into one of the first families.
I'm just researching my "Summers" family line, and have always wondered where this guy came from. That is to say, what family line. There couldn't exactly have been a plethora of Sommers/Summers around that time (mid 1600s) since America was just being populated by non-N/As for barely 25-30 years or so.
My family tree dead ends at one John Summers b. c. 1730-40 VA or PA. As with most families, a very few names were heavily used in my line. The afore mentioned John had a son he named John Jr, he also had a son named Samuel. Samuel named some of his sons Robert, John, Samuel...etc Heck, my brother-in-laws name is Samuel!
Well, anyways. I have no Mayflower books, and remarkably,no access to any. What little I have learned so far, (which is that the John who married into the Samsons was obviously and orphan that sprang from thin air!), I've learned by the kindness of other Mayflower researchers that have been good enough to share information with me.
So, if you ever come across any information, I'd love to have it. If you have any other information on the Sommers mentioned by the Parker, I'd love to have that. If you have anything else about John Sommers the minister or his children (Samuel Elizabeth, Mary, Abigail I'd love to have that. Anything more about John, son of Walter, I'd love to have that. Anything at all which helps me include, exclude...or dig a little more. Thanks for responding, and reading this. Take care.
