Re: Herbert Peter Walker b. July 20 1858 Illinois
I have found them on the 1871 Canadian census in the Simcoe/West Glimmsbury area but have had no luck finding them on the 1861 Canadian census rolls. I did call the Simcoe County records office and they did not see them on their 1861 census rolls with Richard the head of the household.
Richard Walker and Jane Wake were married in the parish of Holme in Yorkshire England in March 1848. Their first son William was born in the USA in 1853, so they had to come from England to America sometime as a married couple between 1848 and 1853. Their second son Herbert Peter (my GG grandfather) was born July 20, 1858 in Illinois(I wish I knew where in Illinois !) and then their third son Austin was born in Ontario in 1864, so they had to come from America to Canada with their 2 sons sometime between 1858 and 1864. Ricahrd and Jane with all their children stayed in Ontario and died there (except Herbert Peter who left Canada to live in Buffalo, NY, marry his Canadian born (Kingston) wife and to raise his family there.)
I THINK I may have found them listed on a ship from England as immigrants.Richard, his parents and brothers and sisters MAY have come from Yorkshire to America on the ship the Yorkshire in 1846. But that wouldve meant that Richard wouldve had to return to England in the years that followed to marry Jane in 1848. There are a couple of different ships I've found a possible Richard on but none for the right Jane, both around 1850. I'm guessing thjat they were living in America by 1851 (maybe in Illinois) and may be able to be able to be found on the 1851 federal census.
At any rate, thanks for all your help, Carolyn !!
