When researching a name like Hill or any place name, it helps to have a place to designate that surname and not get a bunch of hits for places like Bunker Hill. I submitted a request a while back to add a message board for Bythesea. There are not a lot of Bytheseas, but searches tend to turn up place names which are By the Sea. Ancestry message board does not have the ability to separate place names from surnames. So when I search for the surname Easton in Schuylkill County, PA, I get results for the place name Easton, which is in a different county. I will miss the ability to have this alternative place to search and post. Genealogy.com is where I found my husband's father and three sisters he did not know he had after growing up in foster homes. The ability on Genealogy.com to specify a Middle Name in a different field, helped to find my husband's family. I also found my father's family tree back to the 1600s and learned that my husband and I had ancestors living in the same place and the same time in 18 places and times across America. I am going to miss genealogy.com. It does not make it any easier that the old search has been discontinued on Ancestry, as well. End of and era and beginning of an error. Can I blame Microsoft Windows 8 on this, too?
