Re: 148th Field artillery Battery A WWII
Greetings from Fort Worth, TX, Nancy !!!
I am a former artillery man, and have spent a lot of time researching and responding to inquiries such as yours.
As a result, I have observed that that there is just not much in print on line artillery battalions, unless they were division-based. Most units are/were floaters, being assigned to different armies,corps or divisions as needed. The 148th. is an example, as was my unit, the 985th. FA Battalion/Italy.
Every now and then a specofic battery may be mentioned, but then only if involved in some spectacular event.
I can tell you briefly the military history of the 148th. FA Battalion, which was non-division:
Activated 17 JUN 42 in Australia from the original unit, 1st. BN,148th. FA;
it arrived Australia 17 Jun 42;
arvd. New Guinea 19 Jun 43;
arvd. Phillippines 29 Nov 44;
inactivated 17 Jan 46 in Japan.
located Manilia, Phillippines at war's end, 15 Aug 45.
