Re: 558 AAA Battalion
Greetings, Kevin Akehurst !
Assuming that your friend, Cliff, sailed with the battalion, he departed NY P/E, 30 Oct 44;
arrived England, 12 Nov 44;
arrived France-ETO, 5 Feb 45;
arrived NY P/E, 13 Nov 45;
inactivated at Camp Shanks, NY, 14 Nov 45.
The battalion participated in a single campaign,
Central Europe, which spanned the period 26 Mar 45 thru
11 May 45.
The battalion waslocated at Munchen Gladbach, Germany,
at war's end, 15 Aug 45.
I am unable to find any divisional attachments for his unit. Was he involved in any fire missions, or was he in theater without engagement ? Even if he did not fire a shot, he would qualify for the Central Europe Campaign.
I was not involved in ETO operations.
Hopefully, some of his friends will note your posting, and will respond.
I am sorry that I am unable to identify his outbound and
inbound ships, but the list of sailings, while great,is far from complete.
My best regards to you and to Cliff Kihlmere.
Louie F. Turner.
