Mary, Thank you for responding. Sorry for the confussion also.
I will try to make myself clearer. Here is the long of it ; )
My father was apparently drafted (serial # 32404071.) I have a copy of his certification of military service, dated September 17, 1975.It was sent to me by the local VA rep. in Poughkeepsie, New York. With that I was able to complete a 180 form to request his military records (ALL of them.)Which I sent off to St. Louis. I was sent back the basic form letter stating they did not have my fathers records; they were either burned in the fire or whatever. I did not believe that since his certification of service is/was dated 1975. I found out through some detective work I did, that the local VA rep. in New York had sent my dads records off in November 1982, he did not tell me this when I spoke with him on the phone either,(the year my dad died) to the Archives in Pittsfield, Mass. When I called Pittsfield, they said they needed permission from St. Louis and St. Louis told me they needed permission from Pittsfield. FYI I was even given a claim number that that had been used at some point. This was given to me by the Regional office operator...the office is here in North Carolina where I live. She was able to bring up some type of record regarding my dad on her computer. SO...as a result I have yet to get my dads records. I want to know if anyone has any advice as to what my next move should be? It has taken me a little over 2 years to get what I have. Thank you all who read this and maybe have a reply, Ro
