Combat reports, medals & Military records

By Barbara Geisler December 31, 2002 at 02:06:55

Does anyone know if all of the after action reports from 5th infantry division, 11th regiment are located in College Park, MD?Do I need to make an appointment first in order to go through materials regarding the 5th division?
Also, the medal commendations that were mentioned previousl.I was searching for those as well. Our uncle earned a Bronze Star medal while over in Europe, but my research tells me that he was only in action about 2 days before he was MIA. (He was later listed FOD with no explanation). I, too, have been told that his records were burned in the fire, although they did tell me that he had 5 awards coming to him, most of which I determined to be posthumous, but not that original Bronze Star medal. This "reconstruction" unit mentioned by Tom,is intriguing me.I would need advice on how to locate them, and how to approach them for information. Would this team have been the one to inform me of the medals?
Thanks.Barbara
