116th Reg. - Oliver "Ollie" Ness (Medic)
I am trying to find out more information for my Dad about my Grandfather's unit.I know he was a medic with the 116th Infantry Regiment and was wounded on D-day.My Dad has mentioned that he thought he was part of the 3rd wave to hit Omaha Beach.I have been searching for anything that may have my Grandfather's name or anyone he had listed in his notebook. As a medic, he had names and serial #'s of guys from (I believe to be his unit and am guessing so he could identify them if needed). The following are names that he had listed:Marcio Cuallar; Fred Degroot; Raymond Destefano; Alfred Devillier; Ellis Abney; Francis Cutley; Gordon Daniels; George Seates; John Daras; Paul Block; C. Christopherson; Arthur Woods; Joseph LeBlanc; Albert Kocian; Frank Spooner; George Sayers; Richard Palmer; John Bishop; George Elliot; Horatio Bastian; Edmund Kirkwood; Louis Botts; Leonard Goduto; Carmen Chappetto; Robert Vernon Crowgey. My grandfather received a letter from Robert Vernon Crowgey after the war.In this letter, some more names appeared: Howard Suthers; Earl Carter; Walt Rennie Dixon; Ebbert Sult. These names were a little hard to decipher from the letter so they may be wrong. If you are familiar with any of this information, could you please notify me as soon as possible. This is going to be a birthday gift for my Dad in February. My grandfather died in 1955 due to kidney complication due to his paralysis caused by injuries sustained on D-Day.My Dad was his only child. My Dad was only 2 months old when my grandfather left for war in 1942.Any information would be deeply appreciated and would make a grown man cry.
