Remarkably detailed and accurate. The information in regard to a soldiers's SN # and unit is not on the envelopes of the mail I received from Don. Those items are listed on the letter itself. I hope the envelope was saved because that might be the only way the letter can be dated.
As for Bronze Stars i The Bronze Star Medal was awarded for either "meritorious servive" or for "heroic achievement". Now there is a "V" for Valor that is attached to the ribbon to designate "heroic achievement" but that was not used in WWII.
There is a difference between the small bronze and small silver stars attached to a service ribbon that indicate the # of battles in a campaign and the larger stars that award a soldier for performance. (Here I hope I am using the right words.)The small stars have no reference to how well a soldier has performed.
