decorations and citations
Earlier this year my grandmother sent me a copy of my grandfather's discharge papers.
Under Battles and Campaigns it says "none", but under Decorations and Citations it lists "American Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal".
Can anyone shed some light on what these would have been given for?
I'm guessing that the Good Conduct Medal has to do with his behavior while he was in service. And the World War II Victory Medal is because the US was on the winning side.
But what about the American Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal?
I'd appreciate hearing any ideas on this subject.
