trying to locate information on Grandfather in Navy WWII
Now that I have gotten so much info from this board on my Uncle, maybe someone can help on my grandfather.
I have tried to locate his service # and records, but again, in St. Louis said they were iether burnt or lost.My grandfathers name was William Herbert Lambert born in 1906.He joined the war I think when he was up there in age.Probably around 35 or so.He did make it through the war but would never discuss with anyone what he did.I never pressed it for being a veteran myself, those things should be left alone. Now not to poor out my family history, but, he would drink a lot and sometimes broke down and always said that his brothers, my uncle (or great uncle)
death was his fault. The only thing he would say is he carried his brother to his death. Now he did say he drove a boat that dropped of soldiers onto shore, and the way we understand it is his brother was one of the soldiers. My grandfather was wounded when his boat was shelled.
My question is there anywhere I can obtain information on him for in St. Louis they don't have anything. He passed away in 1986.He joined the war out of Floyd County Kentucky and again they have no paper work at all on that stuff.Any help would be great.I am actually doing a family book, and service information is very interesting to read on my family.Thank you.Dan Lambert
