I have just received another group of medals for my brother, S/Sgt George L. Winkler, 13th AF, 100th Sq., 42nd Grp. KIA 3 April 1945, Cebu, Philippine Islands.
I knew he was awarded the Air Medal but when the package arrived there was a green "leather" certificate holder with the Army Logo on the front. Opened it had on the left side a certificate for the Air Medal when he was a Corporal. On the right side was a certificate for the second Air Medal when he was a Sargent. The medal and ribbon have the numeral "2"
A lot has been written about the medals but lets run it again, if you don't mind.
1.What did he do to receive 2 Air Medals?
2.What would he have to have done to earn the Silver Star?
He was an engineer/gunner aboard a B-25 and flew many combat missions.
WE MUST NEVER FORGET
