Finding Service Records
Hi everyone - I noticed a lot of you are looking for service records of family members in order to learn more about their military service.
The National Archives now has a page where you can request family members' service records. The site is located at
However, to obtain the records through that site, you have to be next of kin to the person and he or she has to be deceased. Next of kin would be - widow/er, child, parent or sibling.
If you are not immediate next of kin, you can request service records under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). You will need to submit a form called SF-180. More instructions on how to do that and a dowloadable form SF-180 can also be found at the National Archives website at
I hope this helps you guys out. If any of you have any questions about the military or how to locate anyone who was in the military, please let me know in a reply to this message.
