Sharkey Silas Porter WWII Vet OBIT
(07/24/2003) Sharkey Silas Porter, age 76, passed on to join his mother, Mary Ann Truehitt in Heaven on July 22, 2003. He was born on December 14, 1926, in Waco, Texas. He served with honors in the U.S. Army, overseas in the Philippines during World War II. He then continued his service to the U.S. public delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years. Sharkey loved God and was a dedicated member of the PromiseLand Church for 27 years. He also was an avid swimmer and fisherman. His love for God, the U.S.A. and the outdoors will live on through his lineage. Sharkey is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eska Fay Porter; children, Daniel Porter and wife Kay of Upland, CA, Marsha Porter of Lynnwood, WA, Steven Porter and wife Sharon of Round Rock, TX, Charlotte Trevino and husband Al of Pflugerville, TX, Mark Porter and wife Heidi of Austin, TX, David Porter of Bastrop, TX; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Truehitt and wife Juanita of Chino, CA; sisters-in-laws, Elwanda Sharpe of Manor, TX, Joyce Busbee and husband Pat of Ontario, CA; brother-in-law, Jodie Smith and wife Donna of Chino, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, TX at 7:00 p.m., July 24, 2003. Funeral services will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2003, at the PromiseLand Church Chapel, 1504 E. 51st, Austin, TX, with Bishop Kenneth Phillips of the PromiseLand Church officiating, and pastors, Randy Phillips of the PromiseLand Church and Christopher Craft of Austin Tabernacle collaborating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made in Sharkey's memory to the PromiseLand Church buildingmissionary fund, 1504 E. 51st, Austin, TX, 78723.
