Thank you David. Carl Begley is the son of William Gladstone Begley and Laura Belle Eversole. He is Hobart's half brother.Don't you think it's odd, this is how Hobart was supposed to have died? WW2-non battle-jeep accident. He also was supposed to have died in Jenkins,Letcher,Ky. in a coal mine accident. This was a Hobart Vanover. Part of the confusion is that Hobart's mother was a VAnover. I have researched dthis guy pretty good and I don't beleive he is Hobart. Hobart's sister, Marie, wrote my grandmother and told her it was Hobart, although it now appears to me that she might have deliberately mislead my grandmother. She told my grandmother this story one year after Hobart was supposed to have died, but Hobart's 93 yr. old cousin says Marie's husband is the one who went to Jenkins and checked out the story and said it wasn't Hobart. I am very confused, to say the least.
I am scared that the Hobart Begley in La. is indeed Hobart. The end of the obit when it talks about him being the vice president of a sewing company and also had been a partner in a previous sewing company make sense. He worked for his father in law in a sewing machine company and was very good at his job. I don't want it to be him though, because he has a living son and two daughters who never saw him after 1939 and their mother refused to talk about him. How would that make them feel. Not good, I think.
Still, I have been searching for a long time and need my closure, so I will continue to search.
Were you a pathfinder? My father, Charles E.Begley was in WW2. Phillipines and France and Germany. He was born in 1927 and came more towards the end. We have recently discovered a batch of pictures of his from these times. They are very small but on the back he chronicled them. He was so young and must have been terrified.
thanks for all you do for me and all the other searchers pathfinder. EBL
