Co. K 116th Infantry
I like so many others have tried to obtain my fathers military records only to be told that they were destroyed in the 1973 fire. My father was in the United States Army from Dec 3, 1943 to August 14, 1945. I know that he was first sent to Fort Mc Clellan, Alabama from his letters, his address was Co C22BN Reg IRTC. From there he was in France in July 1944 and gave his address as Co. G Infantry. In August 1944 his address was Co. K 116 Infantry. I have a letter where he mentions Couvains, St Lo and Vire. He was wounded and was sent to U.S. Army Hospital Plant 4123. Later he was at Schick Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. He was awarded a Bronze Star on February 4, 1944 and a Purple Heart for wounds recieved in action September 7, 1944 Brest, France. I would like to know about the Co K 116th Infantry and where they were sent during the war and any other information about the unit and my dad. My fathers name was Raymond H Norman S/N 35900175. He passed away in 1982 and like so many others did not talk about the war and I guess I never really asked, which is something that I deeply regret.Any information would be greatly appreciated about Co. K 116th Infantry.
