CMH - Congressional Medal of Honor DSC - Distinguished Service Cross SS - Silver Star BS - Bronze Star PH - Purple Heart DCM - Distinguished Conduct Medal
My first inclination is to say the number probably indicates how many of each were awarded. However, your post says, "Statistics for CO. K total from D Day". A company (infantry, at least) had 200-250 men in it, depending upon whom you include in the company statistics. 492 Purple Hearts would indicate something in the neighborhood of 200+% casualties in one day. That would seem a bit high. Though not impossible, I suppose, if they were in a position to make replacements fast enough.
