You list a number 42-187-318.
If this was intended as his ArmySerial Number, it does not match any state listing. The first two digits would indicate the state he was drafted from. There is no listing for 42.
If this was a typo, I assume that you meant ASN 32-, which would include personnel from DE, NJ and NY states, which would indicate the state he entered service from.
If this is in fact his Social Security Number, the first
three digits, 421- would indicate that he registered under the SS Act of 1933 from AL, whose numbers are bracketed in the 416-424 series.
If he drew any V-A benefit/s, he will have a trail from that Agency. Check with your local office for any available information.
You mention his Honorable Discharge. Do you have it ? It contains a host of valuable information for your researcher.
For example, it would tell when he left the states, when/where he arrived overseas, the Infantry Regiment he was in (there were 3 IRs in the 29th Infantry Division, 115th, 116th and 175th.)
Knowing which one would provide a basis for constructing a
combat narrative for his unit.
Please let me know how I may help you in your quest, without charge,of course.
