Re: WWII Aircraft Mishaps
Thank you very much for the info!Regarding 2nd LT Pritchard, is it be possible to get additional details concerning the crash? Are accident reports available on line...other than buying them?
Regarding 1st LT Leggett, I assume he was killed in a training accident, otherwise he would have been over Africa or somewhere, right? At that time (mid-1943) I don't think they were flying combat missions over England??
The only info I have on Abbott is from a newspaper...the CO of the base wrote a letter to his mother explaining that his plane disapeared over the Gulf of Mexico on a high-altitude gunnery mission. His wingman was unable to make radio contact after the straffing run, and no debris was found...they assumed he crashed into the gulf.Any idea on how I can find out what kind of plane he was flying?I'm not all that familiar w/ the Army Air Corps as I have concentrated more on Navy & Marines.
I noted you mentioned "(MS/AR Db)"...what does that refer to?
Thanks again for the help,
