Surgical Technician- Geneva Convention
I have my uncle's discharge papers that give his military occupational specialty as "Surgical Technician #861".There is also an identification card with a big red cross on the back that basically says he is entitled to respect and protection from the enemies of the US as required by Article 9 of the Geneva Convention.
His date of induction was April 13, 1943, date of entry into active service was April 20, 1943, Fort Devens, MA.Battles and campaigns were Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno yet the date of departure to Africa was September 21, 1943.He served until July 8, 1945.
Did he have to train for surgical technician? The discharge papers seem to be complete, but there is no unit, etc., that he was attached to.
Thanks for any help,
