David - I never would think you were "shilling". I thought perhaps I had missed something since I think, if I understand what was going on, that there were "medals" ( round metal objects) and ribbons ( small pins made of different colored ribbons that designated the area of service. That the only "medal" connected with those pins were either very small bronze stars, one for each campaign which were exchanged for a very small silver star when the recipient had earned 5 of the very small bronze stars.They did not have anything to do with bravery or excellence in performance. They just said the man was there. And that perhaps the person inquiring had been misunderstood them.
