Nothing is confirmed until you verify data---just keep in mind that that the "I" could be a a numeric 1 and thus the possibility exists that he could be Seaman 1st Class.

PS: Just because it is "carved in stone" doesn't make it true-----One of my research subjects of 504th PIR (Europe), holder of Distinguished Service Cross( KIA Normandy) was buried under a gov't provided headstone and his unit was written as 503rd PIR, which served in the Pacific.The family didn't note the error til I pointed it out 42 years after the fact.
