History of VMSB-236 "Black Panthers" U.S. Marine Squadron
Am searching for any information about the history of VMSB-236 "Black Panthers". This was a U.S. Marine Corps squadron that flew SBD-Dauntless aircraft during World War II in the Pacific. They were part of Marine Air Group 21 and Marine Air Group 32. My cousin was a pilot in this squadron and was shot down and killed over the Phillippines in 1945 and buried at Manila. I have searched all over the internet and found very little information about this squadron.
Would like to learn more so I can track what my cousin did during the war.
His obituary stated that he was a veteran of the Battle of Midway and flew off the USS Yorktown before it was sunk. Also states he was based out of Okinawa when he was shot down in 1945. Cousin's name was 1st Lt. Carl G. Draper of Kentucky.
