Calvin Hunter obit, Guam and Iwo Jima
OROVILLE - No service is planned for Calvin Orie Hunter, 76, of Oroville, who died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at a local hospital.
He was born July 6, 1924, in Electra, Texas.
He served with the Navy for 20 years, during World War II in Guam and Iwo Jima. He also served during the Korean War as a mine sweeper.
He also served on the USS Burton Island in Deep Freeze 60.
Hunter was an avid fisherman and loved Louis L'Amour western novels. He was a 20-year naval "CSC," a member of the U.S. Naval Fleet Reserve and a past member of the Masons and Elk Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eloise of Oroville; four daughters, Barbara Hunter of San Francisco, Beverly Hunter of Washington, Sandra Hunter of Nevada and Karen Cambier of California; three brothers, Elmer and Bill, both of Texas, and Joe Jr. of California; a sister, Mary Miller of Texas; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of Scheer Memorial Chapel.
