POW stalag 4 b - Paul Newman
Hoping to connect with anyone who knew my grandpa in WWII.He was from Adams County, OH.The following is from a newspaper clipping I found:Paul Newman was a veteran of the Army he was captured when taken from the front lines. He was held prisoner in Bitburg, Germany until that city was bombed and destroyed. He then was moved to Lurenbury at" Stalag 4 b " He was a POW for five months before being liberated by Russian forces. He reports that he had a hard time convincing anyone he as an American as a result of trading uniforms and identification with an Englishman.
I do not know the reason he traded uniforms with the Englishman.I have letters from when after the war the Englishman had written to my grandfather.I can not make out the writing in the letters so I can not make out what his name is.Grandpa did not talk about his time in the war all I have is a few newspaper clippings and letters written to my grandma. He did tell me he got frost bite and had to eat anything that crawled to survive while he was a POW.
If any one knows of him please email [email protected]
Thank you
Amy
