Discharge Papers Replacement
After reading many messages in this forum, I'm still a little confused. My father was in the Air Force WWII, was discharged in 1945 and died in 1997.I'm trying to gather information and his medal (if possible) for my brother. Question: Do I need his discharge papers for this? I don't have them, but I do have his dog tags. Will they work since they have his number? One webiste I read said since his military records were lost in a fire, I would need to get information for others in his unit to "rebuild" his records(their words).
This probably doesn't make much sense, which is why I came to this board. Appreciate any advice.
